My first dance crit c/o Make it Share it Show it (aMaSSiT) Choreography Lab, Dance Complex

Hey! Thought I’d share a rare look into dance crits: What #t3mpl3dance looks like to dancer makers (my first crit) . We are being guided by Heidi Henderson and couldn’t have asked for a more thoughtful, affirming, and exacting mentor
.
* Enjoyed seeing me hold my core in various orientations.
* Enjoyed my head movements and facial expressions.
* Couldn’t box me into a narrative so typical of temple form as a story telling tool and therefore could allow mind to relax.
* Enjoyed internalized focus.
* Movement material incredibly clear and integrated .
* Enjoyed command on stage bordering on performance art (this made me giddy).
* Able to show strength and delicateness simultaneously (what I’ve been working on this past month).
* Drawn in entirely. Didn’t do anything predictable. Appreciated they couldn’t predict what I was going to do.
* Developed 6 minutes of vignettes – any or all of which she would love to see performed over and over again – amazed at the breadth of material I have .
.
Things to work on:
* Flush out who I am dancing for – let the piece lead me
* Very contained spatially .
.
Take away
I don’t feel so alone anymore. Grateful for my observant cohorts .#weareforests
Come be my community – Im up on stage for the Mar 30 evening show. Get tix!

@theincredibleiriscutler Remember how you told me I don’t have to relate the weight of the world each time I dance my weird and lovely dance? Think I’m finally getting it. I often times present when I’m still early in my process because I don’t give myself a chance to work more than a couple hours before a show. Being in a choreographic process I’ve been able to do things a few times before I show so it’s not so raw 😍😍😍I’m listening and learning 😗😗😗
